I was a barrister and private pilot Ten years ago I was struck down with chronic fatigue syndrome and now I am unable to practise law any more nor fly. However no matter what adversity strikes you down, you can get up and carry on. I have gone surfing and next week my stand up paddle board arrives. This is a brand new challenge for me.
The theme of my book the Surfing Lawyer is about never giving up when adversity strikes. Since writing the Surfing Lawyer I have achieved some exciting results. Winning the Hawkes Bay open womens at Awatoto at 51 years of age was a huge thrill for me. Then receiving my silver fern at 53 years for body boarding and representing New Zealand in Australia was one of the proudest moments of my life.
I am training hard to be the best surfer I can be and now at 56 I have a new challenge which is to learn to ride my stand up paddle board.
